Good Day St Andrew's Family!

October 4th is known as a celebratory day in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals! Many churches, Lutheran included, have a blessing of pets inviting members and neighbors to bring their pets for a blessing (outside of the church building obviously!). We might do that next year; I never have personally blessed pets but would be honored! I mean, after all, St. Andrews, just look at our building location! Petco on one side, animal hospital on the other!! In fact, as I type maybe we could partner with one or both, and I am serious!!

In my experience, most people are "pet" people, but I also know many who dislike pets of any kind. I, myself, am allergic to cats and might identify myself as a dog person. I grew up with a beautiful part poodle, part pekinese named "Bippy"! (My mom named her that from the TV show of years ago called Laugh-In, a comedy show where Goldie Hawn would say "You bet your bippy!" (or someone said it...). Have you heard the difference between dogs and cats? Dogs think we humans are god, and cats believe they are gods!!!

We all know who God is, friends! Do you ever wonder what God was like? Just look to Jesus....who was both human and divine in one. The stories of Jesus show his human side as well as the divine. He got tired, irritated, and he cried when Lazarus died. Jesus got angry with the money changers setting up business in church, and Jesus had joy and laughter (I believe) when around children and when He proclaimed "you will have my Joy and have it complete!"

Grace and peace,
Pr. Doug
