I am very thankful to Pr. Keith Kriesel who supplied for me this past Sunday. The Gospel lesson that day was Luke 17: 11-19, where 10 lepers are cleansed but only one returns to give thanks to Jesus. In our world today, we do have many, many people, places, and things for which we can give thanks! For example, I am thankful for YOU, who are reading this, right now.
There is much to be said for a life of gratitude, where thanks giving becomes a way of life, and not just the 4th Thursday of November. Again, from our Bible in 1 Thess. 5:16-18 where the Apostle Paul reminds us "rejoice always, pray continually, and give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." Give thanks in all circumstances my friends, even when life is tough.
It's not quite Thanksgiving holiday but find me thankful for St. Andrew's Lutheran church and each and every one of you. Join me in following the advice of Oprah, and every night jot down the 5 things you are thankful for in your life. Each night list a different set of 5 things you are thankful for. And Oprah says, and I agree, "it will change your life!"
TOP THREE THINGS FOR THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 10:
1) Thank God for the color of God's rainbow as the leaves turn gorgeous this week. Please be sure and get out and notice the vibrant "show" (I call it) of fall. May you be blessed with the red passion of Christ, with the orange flame to serve others, the yellow light of yours to shine on others, and the green growth that only God provides.
