Ladies and Gentlemen, Start your engines!
Our "little' town of Speedway is getting swamped with visitors from all around the world coming in for the Indianapolis 500. I know this is an exciting time for race fans, and if I hear correctly, some of you who live closer find the race weekend to be difficult. Hard to get around, dealing with the added traffic and people is a lot for our city.
Somehow, with God's blessings Speedway makes it every year the greatest spectacle in racing. I have a favorite race memory of my high school buddy working for a large finance firm in town. He had an extra ticket to the suite they had reserved on the starting line of the race a number of years ago!!! Air conditioning, buffet, indoor clean restrooms and 50 seats open to watch the race! That was exciting.
I hope you have good memories of this time of year in your life. As we go through this holiday weekend let us remember those who have given their lives for us and the freedoms we experience here in our country. Thank you, God, for those men and women we remember this Memorial Day and bless us with good memories of this race weekend with family/friends and each other.
TOP THREE THINGS TO KNOW FOR THIS LAST WEEK OF MAY:
1) Worship this week is Thursday, 7 p.m. due to the race. If you prefer, Faith will have a Sunday service at 10 a.m.
2) Summer Sermon Series starts June 4th! Called "Our Neighbors Faith" we will take a brief look at our neighbor's faith traditions, and I'll provide a handout with additional information each week.
3) "Pray in all circumstances" (1 Th. 5). St. Paul invites us to pray always so we pray for: a safe Memorial Day weekend for race drivers and fans, for Suzanne DeBoer doing rehab after hip surgery, Jeanine Smith, Jeanette Burbrink, Dale and Bobbie in their respective cancer battles, and all in need of God's healing grace!
