Dear Family of God at Faith, and St. Andrews:

On a recent Saturday, I binge watched a series of movies featuring the life of a character named Jason Bourne. The series began in 2002 with Bourne Identity and stars actor Matt Damon. He is a CIA assassin, with amnesia and cannot remember his identity nor anything about his life. In this first movie he makes a statement to a lady friend he met “I don’t know who I am!”

The premise of these movies over the next 14 years was Jason Bourne trying to find out his identity. There seems to be no answer anywhere, and the movie series looks deeply at his struggle to find his story. So for you and me today, a question: Do YOU know who you are?? Do you know who you are? Do I know who I am?? What is your story?

This could be a hard question to answer if we did not have the Good News of God in Christ Jesus! We are the Lord’s and we belong to God, and God is the center of our lives! We have free and unconditional love and grace and each of us has our own unique story to tell. Stories make the world go around, we all have a story! We all have a story of our own life, family, schooling, work history and all the rest.

The story of the life of Christ will be the center of our upcoming Lenten journey. A daily devotional booklet entitled “A Story to Tell” is available in both churches. You can contact MJ or Sheilah to make arrangements to pick one up. Each Wednesday, after Ash Wednesday, we will hear the stories of your lives, one from each congregation.

The story of Jesus will be told to us through these devotionals as we read each day. These devotionals will frame our Sunday sermons, Sunday evening Faith Formation program, and our Wednesday evening services. There is a lot to take note of, so please consider clipping this and posting on the refrigerator!
