Happy President's Day! Join me in prayer today for our President Biden! I believe God calls us to pray for our leaders regardless of political persuasion. President's Day was established in 1885 in recognition of our first President, George Washington. The holiday became more popular when it became part of the 1971 Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which was to create more 3 day weekends for workers!

As I grew up I do not recall much family communication about our particular political beliefs. I don't have any memory of my parents discussing the President of the day or much about politics as a whole. Perhaps in the 60's and 70's it was much different than today with social media and 24 hour news coverage!

As I graduated college and went into the working world my first real memory of a President was Ronald Reagan. I have gone on to read his biography, and please don't see this through political eyes, but through loving eyes. I was always touched by his love for his wife, Nancy, and their well known publicized love affair. I loved his sense of humor (of course) and also knew him then to be a real man of faith. In his memoir all of this comes through as major parts of his life: wife/family, humor, and faith. I also recall seeing him always looking so good and recall his acting career which I am sure helped him in politics! I remember his love for his farm and horseback riding (comedian Jim Gaffigen wonders why we call it "horse back" riding? Like on what other part of the horse are we going to ride, but I digress). Enjoy the day recalling your favorite Presidents, and remember them with honor and thanksgiving.

God bless your upcoming Lenten journey. Please stay in touch with all of our email communications and let us know your questions!

Peace,
Pastor Doug
