Mark 1:29-39
How's your gas tank?

On this first Sunday in February we continue on our journey through the season of Epiphany where we witness the actions and activity of the ministry of Jesus. Today is no exception, as Jesus comes into town into Simon Peter’s home. Jesus heals Simon’s mother-in-law and the word gets around in the town. They begin to bring many, many sick and diseased.

This healing lasted through the evening and I am sure Jesus was exhausted (remember Jesus was part human, part God) and maybe overwhelmed. Either way, in verse 35 of our Gospel passage  “very early in the morning, while still dark, Jesus got up, went out to a deserted place to pray.” When the disciples find the Lord, Jesus tells them “Let’s go to the neighboring villages so I may preach there too.” After Jesus rested, and prayed, He was ready to get back to work.

This is good information for us, in the busy-ness of life to be sure and take time out to pray. Our Old Testament lesson from Isaiah is a very famous passage. As we wait on the Lord may our own spirits be renewed today. May we also soar like eagles with strength and not be weary for our strength comes not from within, but from God. March on, friends, God is calling.
